Transportation Experience
At Sandy Days Kids Camp, the camp experience begins the moment campers step onto the bus in the morning—and continues until they arrive safely back at their stop in the afternoon.
Our modern, air-conditioned buses are operated by Brooks Transportation, a licensed school transportation provider and are fully insured, equipped with seat belts, and able to accommodate booster or car seats for younger campers when requested in advance. Safety, comfort, and consistency are at the center of every ride.
Each bus is supported by Sandy Days staff who help create a calm, welcoming, and engaging environment. From friendly greetings to simple games and conversation, the bus ride is designed to feel like a positive extension of the camp day—not just a commute.
Round-trip transportation is offered for $185/week. To keep routes efficient and ride times as short as possible, it’s important that families are familiar with our transportation expectations and procedures. Please review the Transportation Guide below prior to your child’s first day of camp so we can ensure a smooth and on-time experience for everyone.

Introduction
Sandy Days Kids Camp offers an optional transportation program designed to provide families with a safe, reliable, and joyful extension of the camp day. Transportation services are operated by a licensed school transportation provider and supported by Sandy Days staff.
This guide outlines how our transportation program works, what families can expect, and the procedures we follow to ensure safety, consistency, and clear communication.
Vehicle Inspection & Maintenance
All transportation vehicles and drivers operate under the jurisdiction of the California Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and the California Highway Patrol (CHP). Vehicles undergo regular CHP inspections, including review of maintenance records and daily safety inspection reports. Drivers are evaluated based on driving history and licensing compliance.
Sandy Days maintains access to inspection documentation and works closely with our transportation partner to ensure all safety standards are met.
Seat Belts & Car Seats
All buses are equipped with lap seat belts, and all campers are required to wear them at all times while the vehicle is in motion.
If your child requires a car seat due to age or size, please notify the Sandy Days office in advance. Car seats designed specifically for bus use and compliant with federal safety standards can be provided as needed.
Driver Qualifications
Drivers are selected by our transportation partner and must meet all state and federal requirements, including:
A valid California Commercial Driver’s License (Class B)
- A clean driving record
- Completion of required medical exams and drug testing.
- Successful completion of mandated bus driving tests.
Drivers are chosen not only for technical qualifications, but also for their professionalism and comfort working with children.
Bus Supervision
While state law does not require additional supervision beyond the driver, Sandy Days provides staff supervision on every bus whenever possible.
Sandy Days bus staff support campers by:
- Assisting with boarding and seating
- Managing sign-in and sign-out procedures
- Supporting safe behavior
- Creating a positive, welcoming environment through conversation, songs, or quiet games
In rare cases where Sandy Days staff are unavailable, the licensed driver will assume full responsibility for the route.
Your Child’s Experience
At Sandy Days, we believe the camp day begins the moment your child steps onto the bus.
Bus rides offer campers a chance to:
- Connect with peers
- Build independence
- Practice social skills
- Ease into (and wind down from) the camp day
We encourage families to speak positively about the bus experience and help children understand that it is a fun, meaningful extension of camp.
Communication & Daily Changes
The Sandy Days office coordinates daily with bus staff to confirm:
- Camper lists
- Stop assignments
- Any schedule changes
If your child will not be riding the bus on a scheduled day, please notify the Sandy Days office as early as possible. Same-day changes due to illness should be communicated no later than the morning of camp.
If your child needs to leave camp early or will not ride the bus home, the office must be notified so staff can ensure a safe transition.
Before Boarding
Please ensure your child uses the restroom before boarding the bus in the morning.
Buses are unable to make bathroom stops once en route. Campers should also use the restroom prior to afternoon departure from camp.
Your cooperation here is essential to a smooth and comfortable ride for everyone.
Bus Stop Timing & Expectations
- Bus routes may range from 10–60 minutes depending on traffic and location.top has a defined boarding window. Families may arrive at any point during this window.
- Buses depart promptly at the scheduled time and cannot wait for late arrivals.
- If you miss your stop, you may meet the bus at a subsequent stop if timing allows.
Afternoon delays due to traffic can occur. Families should plan to arrive 5 minutes early for afternoon pickup. If a bus is running more than 10 minutes late, families will be notified via text or email.
Failure To Pick Up A Camper
If a camper is not picked up at the designated stop:
- Parents will be contacted using all phone numbers on file.
- The camper will remain on the bus while attempts to reach family continue.
- Pickup may occur at a later stop if authorized and feasible.
- If unresolved, staff will wait with the camper at the final stop.
Additional fees may apply. Repeated occurrences may result in loss of transportation privileges.
Unauthorized Pickup
Campers will only be released to individuals listed on the Authorized Pickup List.
If an unauthorized person arrives:
- Parents will be contacted for verification.
- Verbal authorization must be received before departure.
- Without authorization, the camper will remain with staff until an approved pickup occurs.
Repeated issues may result in removal from the transportation program.
Bus Stop Assignment
Bus stops are established to balance:
- Safety
- Efficiency
- Overall ride time
Families select from pre-established stops during enrollment. While proximity to home is considered, stop assignments impact total route duration and overall experience.
Fees & Cancellation
Transportation is an optional add-on service. If transportation is scheduled but not used on a given day, fees are not adjusted.
If transportation is canceled entirely through the Sandy Days office, unused transportation fees may be credited for remaining weeks, in accordance with camp policy.
Emergency Procedures
Each vehicle is equipped with:
- First aid kit
- Emergency equipment
- Communication devices
- Emergency procedure documentation
Drivers and Sandy Days staff are trained to respond appropriately in the event of an emergency.
Bus Rules
For safety and respect, campers are expected to follow these rules at all times:
- Wait on the sidewalk or curb until the bus arrives

- Keep hands, feet, and belongings to yourself
- No food or gum on the bus (water only)
